A High Calling
Staff Expectations
Christ
- Our # 1 priority: Pointing people to Jesus Christ while abiding in Him (see John 15).
- We seek to see in our staff a growing, purposeful relationship with Christ and that they are seeking to be more like Jesus Christ, recognizable as His followers through their outward expression of love, repentance, and faith.
- Because of our commitment to Christ, we require our staff to be above reproach in every way by living Christ-like lives both here and away from camp. We prohibit our staff from involvement in illegal drugs, pornography (any form), homosexuality, pre-marital sex, or any unrepentant sin – on or off duty.
Children
- We seek to show kids that Christ is the goal, motivation, and top priority of our lives. It is a summer-long, full-time ministry where you will pour yourself out and invest in the lives of campers.
- You will be called to love our campers like Christ loves you – unconditionally and joyfully!
- You will be called to keep our campers safe, and have fun with them! Your life will be lived for their sake all summer long, shepherding them and guarding them in the name of our great Savior.
Community
- We work in an intentional community: to grow to look like Christ’s body
- Our staff lives in Gospel-Centered community with and for one another. A Christian Community thrives through diversity, bond of common purpose, conflict and reconciliation through the Gospel, and continual repentance and faith in Christ Jesus. We worship together and hold each other accountable in our faith and actions in this community. Lives are changed by the Holy Spirit through these 8 weeks of Summer Camp.
Culture
- We have a specific culture at Twin Lakes, one that seeks not to escape from the world and its distractions, but to engage hearts with God’s Word in order to go back to the world as salt and light.
- You will be called to commit to giving up and intentionally focusing on and adopting certain behaviors and characteristics for the sake of our goal—Christ’s glory. Through this, we nurture a focused, encouraging, and uplifting culture, and maintain unity through the bond of peace in Jesus Christ. The culture of Twin Lakes has been purposefully crafted for 40 years through a tradition focusing on God’s word, excellence and hilarity.
Challenge
- If you are on the Twin Lakes Summer Staff, you will be stretched emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually.
- Be ready for a challenge at your activity site, in the cabin, in your free time, and in your relationships. We know from God’s word that God uses the challenges of life to grow us into the men and women He has called us to be – it is not the easy, comfortable experiences that are life changing!
Compensation
- There is a fine balance in Christian Camping work – you are paid to play with kids in earthly paradise. Sounds like the perfect job! However, the Twin Lakes staff member’s job is one of high calling, and should be approached with careful prayer and consideration. You will be expected to fulfill the duties and expectations of the job, while maintaining an atmosphere of joyous ministry. This is not only possible, it is a very present reality at Twin Lakes! As a Twin Lakes staff member, you will be called represent the camp, the Church, and our mission well. But as you are responsible for this, remember that you work not for any person but for the glory of God.
- All staff positions are paid, in addition to room and board for the summer. Salary is dependent on staff position, experience, and special skills.
Commitment
- “What we do in moderation, kids will do in excess.” This saying reminds us that we have a responsibility to lay our own freedoms aside for the sake of kids and families that come to camp who might be distracted by those freedoms.
- Camp is a time to intentionally engage relationships with others, God’s word, and His creation. Thus life is different at camp. We limit our freedoms in order to impact the most kids and parents possible for Christ. Every policy has a purpose – to honor God and to protect this community. Camp is an opportunity to teach kids how to “unplug” from many distractions and attitudes of this world. This is why camp is so unique, refreshing, and life-changing. Restrictions on technology, clothing, appearance and time are made in light of what is good for you and for the community as a whole. These limitations will enhance your summer experience and provide you with a model for seeing Christ and His church in a unique community. This kind of intentional living takes commitment and dependence on Jesus.
- Cellphones are to be used only during staff off - time (including as an alarm clock, for text messaging, pictures, etc.) and cannot be in your possession when you are on duty. They will be kept in a safe, and can be checked out during multiple off - times given to staff during the week and on weekends. There are many legal reasons for this policy, protecting you and your campers from negative situations, and from unnecessary distraction.
- All staff members are required to work the full 8 week summer. Off-time requests (school orientations, weddings, etc.) must be approved by the directors prior to being hired.
- Summer Staff who serve in specific activity areas may also be required to attend training or arrive at camp early (i.e. Leadership, Challenge Course, Riflery/Archery, and Horseback Riding Staff). Leadership Staff must also be prepared to meet periodically throughout the school year.
A Message from one of the Directors:
“I personally want staff to see what I saw here as a summer staff member: a picture of the body of Christ, working towards the common goal of God’s glory while serving. I also want to encourage them to love children as Christ has loved us, and strive to live with a childlike faith in front of and with these children and each other. My life was transformed through God’s work at Twin Lakes while I was a college student. I hope that many young people will be blessed in the same way.”
